The motivation letter is often the key document for a European master's. Here is what goes into it and which mistakes to avoid.
A one-page structure
Paragraph one: why this programme at this university. Paragraph two: what you already know and can do — courses, projects, work. Paragraph three: what you want to learn and how it fits your plans. Then a short conclusion.
What to avoid
Clichés like "I have always dreamed", a retelling of your CV, and the same letter for every university. Committees read hundreds of letters and spot a template immediately.
How to make it stronger
Name specific courses in the programme and faculty whose work interests you. Give one project example with a measurable result. Ask someone who writes well in English to read it.
