Study in China
Strong engineering and medical universities, programmes in English and Chinese, and one of the most generous government scholarships in the world.

A bachelor's degree in China takes 4 years, medicine 5–6 years and a master's 2–3 years. Chinese-taught programmes usually ask for HSK 4 (180+ points); English-taught ones for IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80.
If you don't speak Chinese yet, start with a one-year language course at the university: it accepts any level and leads on to the bachelor's degree. Some universities offer a 1+4 track — a foundation year followed by four years of study.

X1 student visa
Study longer than 180 days requires an X1 visa. It is issued on the basis of the university's Admission Notice and the JW201 or JW202 form, which universities send out in June–July. You will need a passport valid for at least 18 months and a Foreigner Physical Examination Form no older than 6 months.
Within 30 days of arrival the X1 visa is converted into a residence permit for the length of your studies. Short programmes of up to 180 days (language courses, summer schools) use an X2 visa.
Student life
Most international students live on campus in international dormitories: about ¥800–1,000 a month in Harbin, around ¥1,700 for a room in an apartment in Guangzhou. Part-time work is only allowed with the university's permission. English gets you by in big cities, but basic Chinese makes everyday life much easier.
